Course "Magneto-optics: fundamentals and applications" is devoted to magneto-optical properties in homogeneous and structured magnetic media and their applications. In this course magneto-optical effects are considered in terms of the classical Maxwell electrodynamics as well as the quantum theory of solid state physics. The main attention is paid to the magneto-optical effects in a spatially periodic materials containing paramagnetic or ferromagnetic components. In particular, magnetic photonic crystals and plasmonic perforated films are discussed. One section of the course is devoted to nonlinear magneto-optical effects. In addition, advanced magneto-optical materials and methods of their fabrication are considered. The course also discusses several possible applications of nanophotonic materials into new elements of integrated optics, recording devices and information processing.
