Описание:MATH 5833 Computer-Aided Modeling. With a focus on mathematical models based on real and current data, MATH 5833 guides students in the solution of relevant, practical problems by introducing both mathematical and computer- aided techniques. In connection with the current pandemic, in this course a student will not only learn the theory and methods, but also model Covid19 spread using many resources and software packages, will simulate the spread of the virus, compare it with the actual data and even predict the dynamics of the pandemic with and without quarantine.
The course begins with a step-by-step introduction to discrete dynamical systems, which are mathematical models that describe how a quantity changes from one point in time to the next. An advantage of modeling by continuous models and methods of their investigation will be presented. Students are taken through the process, language, and notation required for the construction of discrete and continuous models as well as their implementation in Excel, Maple or MATLAB.
The material examines
a) single-compartment models , such as population growth, personal finance, and body weight
b) multi-compartment models applied to infectious disease epidemics, and compartmental drug model.
