In this talk first I will review the main focuses and achievements of research on thin films of block copolymers in the last twenty years starting from the first experimental indication on deviations from the bulk behavior under confinement [1] to modern DSA (Directed Self-Assembly) manufacturing line [2]. Next, the differences in the experimental methodologies and simulation approaches on thin block copolymer films will be highlighted with the idea to discuss how and if at all these dissimilarities can be overcome. In the following part, recent work on several experimental issues will be presented and discussed. (i) Advances in film processing using solvent vapor annealing [3-4]. (ii) The role of flow field (capillary flow) in structure development [5-6]. In the final part, current publishing trends, as well as few puzzling experimental observations on thin film behavior will be highlighted.
