The most important engineering criteria for landing at illuminated polar regions are presence of flat surface (small slops at lander scale) and favorite illumination conditions. Landing at illuminated lunar polar regions is useful for studies of the OH behavior and presence of Na, Mg, and Ca deposits. Landing in Ti-rich mare basalt regions is important for studies of He-3 as valid lunar resource. Other regions with unusual elemental and petrologic composition are considered as potential landing site candidates.
