The proposed presentation aims to cover the issue of implicit expressivity in literary texts. It is known that expressivity of a text does not amount to the number of stylistic devices used, being a complex multifaceted phenomenon. Means of implicitly enhancing the expressive capabilities of the text include the implementation of verbalised conceptual metaphors. This mechanism will be illustrated on the basis of examples, drawn from W.S. Maugham’s short stories.
