In the present work, we consider a problem of optimizing storage control under significant self-discharge. An owner of the device can buy energy at fixed tariffs or at wholesale market prices and sell it back to the network at these prices. He aims to maximize his profit from the energy resale in a given planning interval. We obtain an efficient algorithm for calculating the optimal storage strategy in the general case. It uses energy prices reduced with account of the self-discharge coefficient. The optimal control is calculated independently in each interval, including the local minimum of the reduced energy price and its next local maximum. In a typical case, it includes the initial loading of the storage to the maximum volume, several stages of its additional loading in connection with the self-discharge and subsequent complete unloading. For two types of daily tariffs, we determine optimal control strategies depending on the storage volume per one kW of the storage power. These strategies and related profits are specified for the tariffs used in Russia, India and USA.
