Dexamethasone (DM) - a synthetic glucocorticoid, which is used widely in veterinary medicine. But in modern animal industry at intensive technologies of cultivation of animal production DM can be illegal used as a stimulator of growth of productive animals. Residual content of DM in animal products may have embryotoxic and genotoxic effects in humans. For this, many countries imposed a ban restriction on the use of hormonal growth promoters, which including DM, in animal husbandry. Application of DM in veterinary medicine is regulated by the maximum allowable levels (MRLs) established for this hormone in animal products. For Russia, the MRLs for DM is in muscle and kidney - 0.5 ng/g and 2.5 ng/g in liver and 0.3 ng/ml in milk. For European Community the MRLs for DM is following: 0.0005 mg/kg in muscle and kidney, 0.00025 mg/kg in liver. Nevertheless, the recent increase in illegal use of glucocorticoids as growth promoters. Adverse effects on human health, as well as frequent use of the DM leads to the need to develop a highly sensitive and specific rapid method for determining the method of the glucocorticoid in food. The most promising for these purposes is to use an indirect solid-phase competitive immunoassay, which has the following advantages: low cost, ease of analysis and the ability to test a large number of samples in a short period of time. To increase the sensitivity of the analysis, we applied the previously developed the detection system based on anionic peroxidase soybeans [1]. Therefore, the use of this detection system opens good possibilities to develop highly sensitive enzyme immunoassays for the determination of DM in food.
