Umbelliferae carpological characters always considered as basic features for traditional morphological systematics. Recently it was found that the most part of these characteristics does not correlate with molecular data completely. Only few of them have entire coherence with phylogenetic system based on both nrDNA ITS and cpDNA sequence data. One such characteristic is presence of secondary ribs. Taxa with secondary ribs are strongly concentrated in two neighbour clades (Torilis Clade and Daucus Clade), with a few exceptions only. One of exceptions is the monotypic genus Ekimia, strict endemic of Turkey. First it was described as Prangos, because of likeness of immature fruits with fruits of P. lophoptera. Only in 1999 this species has obtained generic status, but still remain as part of Cachrys clade. Morphology and anatomy of Ekimia’s fruits are unusual for Prangos. It is because of presence both primary and secondary ribs, shape of endosperm, place of vascular bundles and secretory ducts. Structure of inflorescences and vegetative parts also is unique for Prangos and other relative genera. Complete research of morphology and nrDNA ITS showed that this genus close relative for Laserpitium. It is in agreement with morphological data, Laserpitium also have secondary ribs, the same shape of endosperm etc. In addition E. bornmuelleri is a sister clade only for L. petrophilum, both one Turkish endemic species. It can bring clarity in systematic placement of L. petrophilum, which as Ekimia is not “typical” Laserpitium.
