The experimental analysis of anisotropic flow fluctuations using event-by-event unfolding is discussed both in the frames of data analysis and model studies. It is shown that the simple modification of the HYDJET++ model via introducing the distribution over spatial anisotropy parameters permits the generator to reproduce both elliptic and triangular flow fluctuations and related to it eccentricity fluctuations of the initial state at the LHC energy of 2.76 TeV per nucleon pair. The results of data analysis at the LHC energy of 5.02 TeV with the CMS detector are discussed. The possibility to probe the initial state by studying the event-by-event flow fluctuations is presented.
