During the Soviet occupation of North Korea, the Soviet military command faced the threat of epidemic outbreaks. To prevent epidemics, the komendaturas as the Soviet military administration bodies, together with the people's committees of North Korea, took a number of countermeasures that abetted both the reduction of the mortality rate from infectious diseases and prevention of re-emergence of certain diseases. This study analyzes the causes of the spread of infectious diseases and methods that were used by the Soviet military authorities to fight against epidemics in 1945-1948. The study is based on the materials of the Central Archive of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
