We have presented results of numerical modelling of the density of lunar surficial H and OH, which are qualitatively consistent with M³-based observations at low and high southern latitudes. Future work will involve the addition of H2O to the model. Further tests of the model will require observations of specific regions at many different daytimes, which are not available in the M³ data set. Ground-based near-infrared spec-trometers such as the LIS instrument to be deployed on the upcoming Russian lunar landers will allow for a more refined comparison between observations and modelling results of daytime-dependent variations of the surficial OH abundance.
