Cuprous halides have numerous applications in important processes in industry, microelectronics and homogeneous catalysis. They are stable components with a complex structure close to zinc blende. Copper(I) fluoride, in contrast to other cuprous halides, is recognized as unstable and not isolable. The synthesis of CuF has been reported previously but has never been confirmed. Indeed, CuF readily transforms into CuF2 and Cu, because of exothermicity of its disproportionation reaction.
