Fruit structure and pericarp histogenesis of monocots (including Arecaceae) are insufficiently investigated. We studied representatives of 5 genera comprising the tribe Iriarteeae (Dictyocaryum lamarckianum (Mart.) H. Wendl, Iriartea deltoidea Ruiz & Pav., Iriartella setigera (Mart.) H. Wendl., Socratea exorrhiza (Mart.) H. Wendl, Wettinia castanea H. E. Moore & J. Dransf. and Wettinia cladospadix (Dugand) H. E. Moore & J. Dransf) with the aim to reveal anatomical features of the fruit structure. The pericarp of the studied species represented by single-layered exocarp, multi-layered mesocarp and single-layered endocarp. We revealed sclerified zone in mesocarp of studied species which carries out function of seed protection due to endocarp is not able to protect the seed. Based on our research we established that fruits of studied species are related to next fruit types: pseudomonomerous pyrenarium of Ilex type (I. setigera, I. deltoidea, S. exorrhiza, W. cladospadix) and coenocarpous pseudomonomerous berries of Nuphar type (D. lamarckianum, W. castanea).
