The way of transmission of the Avesta and Avestan language has undergone 2 significant splittings in its history: i) In X century, when one part of the Zoroastrians emigrated from Iran to India; ii) In XVIII-XIX centuries, when European scientists took Avestan manuscripts from India to Europe and began an independent study there. There are now 3 different schools of reading/singing and interpreting Avesta: Iranian, Indian and European. Iranian and Indian schools are closer to each other. The European point of view on the Avesta contains some conscious and subconscious influence of European mentality. The overall feature of Europeans is that they don’t have any contacts with Zoroastrians in India and Iran. They estimate the information that they could get from them as not reflecting the real situation in the transmission of the Avesta and therefore not interesting. The interviews usually were recorded by video and/or by digital sound recorder. This group will be referred as Zoroastrians. Many Europeans (to our astonishment) think that Angra Mainyu is the evil counterpart of Ahura Mazda. They call this situation the dualism and describe them in books (in Russian books as well) as two equals. This is the reason for anti-Zoroastrian propaganda, because 2 gods (one good, one evil) form paganism.
