Social networking is no longer a particularly new phenomenon in our life and modern students make active use of it for their personal purposes. In this light, it makes sense for educators to face this challenge and benefit from social media in teaching, too. The main purpose of this talk is to brief the participants on the educational potentials of the three social networks, Facebook, Vkontakte and Edmodo, which have been used to fulfill different teaching objectives. As experience has proved, such platforms allow successful student collaboration on various levels and create a safe environment of closed online communities, thus enhancing language learning and giving a significant boost to student motivation and, as a result, their performance during the course.
