Here we present the results of the mechanistic and catalytic studies of amine-boranes (Me2NH·BH3, tBuNH2·BH3) dehydrogenation by rare earth metal complexes (TBDM)2MLn (M = Sm, Yb; TBDM = (p-tBu-C6H4)2CR (R = H, iBu); L = TMEDA (n = 1), DME (n = 2)) by IR, NMR (1H, 11B) and X-Ray spectroscopies. It was shown that formation of amido-borane lanthanide complexes (1 and 2 at Figure 1) precedes catalytic dehydrogenation of aminboranes. The intermediates of the pre-catalytic reaction, kinetics of the subsequent amine-borane dehydrogenation, as well as the difference between Sm and Yb complexes will be discussed.
