The results of assessments and calculations of the level of reliability of electricity generation at solar photovoltaic plants in Russia are disscased. The analysis of methodological approaches to assessing emerging risks in the implementation of electricity generation projects based on various types of renewable energy sources is carried out. The authors propose a methodology for assessing the degree of risk for using solar resources on the basis of calculating the characteristics of the influx variability for solar radiation to the earth's surface, assessing and mapping the level of natural resource risks. The assessments of the risks of the stability of the SES operation were carried out, based on the level of variability of the total solar radiation inflow to the horizontal surface according to NASA data. Calculations of the coefficients of variation of solar energy inputs were the basis for creating a number of maps using GIS Technologies. Analysis of the results for the Astrakhan, Orenburg Regions and the Altai Republic was carried out.
