This study investigated collective memory and future forecasting during the COVID-19 pandemic. Between April-June 2020, over 4000 individuals, across 15 countries, reported on global and national events that (a) have happened since the beginning of the pandemic or (b) may occur in the future. A thematic content analysis demonstrated that COVID-19-related event themes dominated past and future events, and that themes overlapped substantially across countries. The event themes reported across countries differed depending on the severity of the pandemic and stringency of governmental response. Findings provide evidence for the emergence of collective event representations during the early stage of the pandemic.
