The Ostwald ripening (OR) in heptane-in-water submicron emulsions in the presence of stabilizers of various water solubilities was studied. Different mechanisms of OR retardation for hydrophilic (Tween 80, hydroxypropyl cellulose) and lipophilic (felodipine, glyceryl monooleate) stabilizers were analyzed. Lipophilic amlodipine (with higher solubility in water than heptane) has no effect on kinetics of OR.
