In my presentation, I am going to focus on two figures who are primarily associated with the concept of radical democracy — Belgian philosopher Chantal Mouffe and French philosopher Jacques Rancière. The works of both of these authors have gained a lot of attention in the philosophy of education recently. Firstly, I will elaborate on their ideas about democracy and the notion of political. In doing this, I will try to showcase similarities between their approaches, as well as areas of disagreement. Finally, I will try to outline some of the possible applications of these ideas to education, particularly, to the practice of democratic education.
