The article presents the study results of the demand for agricultural crop insurance in Kazakhstan. For about 16 years, Kazakhstan had a system of compulsory crop insurance, but the level of insured areas fluctuated from year to year, reaching 38% in 2019. The econometric model of the dependence of the share of insured areas on a number of factors was build based on the district's statistics from 2010 to 2018 of the two largest grain regions (Akmola and Kostanay regions). Our analysis showed that the significant factors that influence the level of insured areas in districts are (listed in decreasing order of importance): the amount of precipitation in May; the amount of winter precipitation and the level of material costs. We guess that our conclusions will be useful for insurance companies in case of a tariff setting policy.
