Previous research indicates cross-cultural differences in executive functions, related to the emphasized collective cultural values and parental practices. Investigations mainly focused on comparing West-Asian cultures, while East-European societies have not yet been analyzed. The present study aimed to explore the differences and similarities between age- and IQ-matched Russian and Romanian preschoolers regarding trait anxiety, inhibition, and creativity. The findings revealed that the Russian children presented higher scores on the creativity task and anxiety scale. Also, comparative to the Romanian group, Russian preschoolers presented better performances on the majority of the inhibition tasks. However, this superior accuracy performance was also related to significantly longer responses, Romanian children taking less time to complete the inhibition tasks. Socio-cultural aspects relating the observed differences between groups of preschoolers are discussed.
