At present Arctic region becomes one of the priorities in the agendas of different countries and nations. From the geopolitical point of view, the physical space of the Arctic is politicized at the critical level mainly focused around national interests and regional governance. This poses a lot of challenges to the sustainable development of the Arctic in the changing world. Appropriate strategies and efforts for the international cooperation in the Arctic are the ways forward in shaping the future of the region. Science is one of the basic elements of such cooperation. As stated during the Toyama Conference 2015 at ICARP III “…the Arctic remains a region of geopolitical stability which is a precondition for sustaining Arctic research”. Also, the leading intergovernmental forum of the high level – Arctic Council – recognizes the need for scientific cooperation in the Arctic. The Scientific Cooperation Task Force of the Arctic Council aims to improve and facilitate the research cooperation among different Arctic stakeholders. For science community, it is essential to keep fostering the international research and initiatives, to open up dialogues and develop interdisciplinary international research activities.
