Graphite oxide (GO) membranes demonstrate exceptional permeation properties with promise for many applications. Mechanism of such permeation is widely discussed in literature. In the present work we assessed the degree of mobility of polar liquid intercalated in the inter-plane space of graphite oxide. It is known that the polar solvents adsorbed inside the GO powders and membranes do not exhibit freezing/melting phase transition. The data on the molecular mobility of such liquids are incomplete and controversial. The state of the liquid is typically characterized as “strongly bound to the host molecules”.
