It is impossible to imagine Arachnology of the modern time without using WSC (World Spider Catalog) almost every day, whether it is by taxonomists and faunists or by those who works on ecology, ethology, or physiology of spiders. The WSC is powerful tool lacking in other species-rich orders of arthropods. Although the Catalog was originally designed to provide references to taxonomic literature, WSC also lists species distribution as supplementary data. Many arachnologists rely on this data uncritically. Examples of distribution misinterpretations in WSC are provided. Algorithm for searching correct data is shown.
