Return spatial mobility of population in Russia has become one of the most important channels of social integration of Russian space and formation the rural-urban continuums of different type and scale. The incentives for urbanites to spend considerable time in rural areas associated not only with recreation or real estate investments. Dachas of urbanites may include agricultural components, form a special style and meaning of life in rural areas. Dachas have also become an important adaptation mechanism that allowed in Russia to combine the advantages of urban and rural lifestyles. The different size of houses, diversity of arrangement and distance from the centers made dachas available for the population of different levels of income and strengthened the tradition of urbanites to spend some time in the countryside. The report examines different types of dachas: in garden associations and in villages. Despite the mass nature of this phenomenon, summer residents are ignored by federal and regional authorities. At the same time, urbanites living in rural areas are the most initiative part of the local community and have a strong influence on the development of rural areas. The report provides examples of Muscovites dachas of different types in the old-developed regions of Central Russia: in the Moscow region, in the areas surrounding the Moscow agglomeration, in the remote regions. Their difference, spatial distribution, specificity of influence on rural development and their interaction with rural residents are considered. The role of citizens living in rural areas permanently while maintaining the city registration is also revealed.
