Calixarenes is well known family of host molecules with wide range of applications in supramolecular chemistry. Our research group has focused over the last decade on the design, synthesis and host-guest properties of the different types of these macrocyclic compounds. In this lecture we will discuss synthetic approaches, ionophore and catalytic properties of novel host molecules based on calix[4]arenes, including: • Calix[4]arenes with β-diketones units at narrow rim; • Constructing bridged multifunctional calixarenes by intramolecular indole coupling; • Triazolated calix[4]arenes from 2-azidoethylated precursors [1].
