It has been shown that the formation of the blocking anticyclones in the north-eastern Atlantic and in the western sector of the Arctic followed the passage of series of the Atlantic cyclones, which bring the warm Atlantic air to these areas. For the formation of a blocking anticyclone over the region, two factors are necessary: ​​first, heat advection and, second, anticyclonic vorticity advection. In turn, the sources of the anticyclonic vorticity can be either the Azores anticyclone or the spur of the Siberian anticyclone. Anticyclones formed under these conditions, due to warm air, receive good vertical development and become blocking. The Norwegian current intensifies along their western periphery, bringing warm water to high latitudes and a decrease in the ice cover of the northern seas during the height of the winter season, which in turn causes the increase of wind waves.
