In this research, Pd-decorated CoFe2O4 multifunctional nanoparticles have been synthesized as a hybrid platform for simultaneous magnetic hyperthermia and photothermal therapeutic applications. The synthesis process has been carried out upon two-steps coprecipitation method to achieve bare and Pd-decorated nanoparticles. Elemental and microstructural analyses have been conducted using TEM, HAADF-STEM, EDS, and ICP-OES techniques and confirm successful homogeneous Pd-decoration of highly crystalline CoFe2O4 nanoparticles. Cations distributions, which have been inferred from XANES and XRD measurements, suggest the presence of considerable cation disorder, which increased with decreasing particles size for all samples. Magnetic behaviors have been investigated through XMCD and magnetometry (VSM) techniques. Intriguingly high-field XMCD reveals significantly enhanced total magnetic moments after Pd decoration for both Fe and Co ions. This substantially increased magnetization could lead to improved magnetic hyperthermia performance.
