A one-stage redox-mediator-free synthesis of conducting poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) has been performed using sodium polystyrene sulfonate (PSS) as a template and laccase as a catalyst. The proposed synthesis is simple and proceeds under mild conditions. The enzymatic approach enabled to carry out the EDOT polymerization in the presence of PSS and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT). A PEDOT/PSS/MWCNT composite with a high specific capacitance was obtained.
