This message is based on the results of a research held among Russian speakers studying in different universities in the UK. The target was to investigate the popular commemorative practices that Russian speaking students support and transmit. Analyzing the data gives an idea of how the identity of Russian-speaking communities abroad is constituted and distributed, what is defined as “purely Russian” or nostalgically “home”, and how particular selection of commemorative practices reflects collective memory and common values of participants of the community.
