In this paper we consider the reliability optimization problem for real-time embedded systems (RTES). The proposed method consists of the following steps: creation of RTES simulation model at necessary level of abstraction; fault-injection in RTES simulation model; application of metaheuristic algorithms to choose an optimal solution; automatic construction of simulation model of the RTES which implements the chosen fault tolerance mechanisms; and running this model to verify that the RTES meets real-time requirements (deadlines) in presence of faults. This method was implemented as an experimental tool. The program works in cooperation with Algorithm Constructor environment for composition of optimization algorithms and DYANA simulation environment. Results of experiments involving the tool are presented. In the end of the paper our future plans are briefly described.
