Irradiation with an electron beam at absorbed doses of 0.5-1 kGy is suitable to initiate the aggregation and precipitation of natural polymers such as gelatin, starch, pectin and wheat flour in dilute (0.1-0.5 wt%) aqueous solutions. The formation of aggregates is irreversible. The aggregation and precipitation are confirmed by experiments on dynamic light scattering. The phenomenon of radiation-induced aggregation of natural polymers can be used in practice for the preparation of drinking water, wastewater treatment and for the purposeful formation of micro- and nano-aggregates.
