The reports develops methodological aspects of virtual reconstruction of Moscow Monastery of the Virgin of the Passion (Strastnoy monastery) and surrounding Strastnaya Square in 17th – 1910s years a unique monument of historical and cultural heritage of Moscow. Advantages of using 3D models are mainly associated with the possibility of interactive representation of reconstruction and model verification through access via Internet. Adequate tools for building virtual reconstruction of lost or ruined objects of historical and cultural heritage are provided by methods and technologies of 3D modeling (ArchiCAD, SketchUp) rendering (Autodesk 3Ds Max, Lumion), 3D engine (Unity3D), photogrammetry (Agisoft Photoskan), augmented reality (multi virtual reality – Kolor PanotourPro2), interactive flash mapping (iMap Builder) and other tools (Sketchfab, Adobe Acrobat) which authors use in this project. Using appropriate computer programs allows historians to synthesize complex historical sources and represent reconstructed object in its evolution, to create its spatial reconstruction at different periods of time. Virtual reconstruction of a historical city building creates opportunities for the development of a new trend of historical urbanism, urban history. Within this framework, it is possible to reconstruct the evolution of urban space, the architectural environment in which townspeople’ life flew in a certain era. In the presence of representative sources the creation of such reconstructions can be performed at a high scientific level today. Under the term of verification we mean the possibility of a user’s interaction with the presented sources on the website (text documents, drawings, plans, oil paintings, etc.) and virtual 3D model created on their basis with a detailed description of its construction techniques applied to each building in order to analyze the restored model, the search of it possible inaccuracies, unconfirmed hypotheses.
