*E-mail: fedorch@enzyme.chem.msu.ru Penicillin acylase is used in pharmaceutical industry for production beta-lactam antibiotics. Amides are used as a donor of acyl part. Alpha-amino acid esters hydrolase (КФ 3.1.1.43, AEH) is al-ternative enzyme to synthesize alpha-amino beta-lactam penicillins and cephalosporins. In this laboratory gene of AEH from Xanthomonas rubrilineans ВКПМ В-9915 (XrАЕН) was clone and expressed in E. coli cells. Recombinant XrАЕН was tested in processes of synthesis of different alpha-amino beta-lactam penicillins and cephalosporins. Reaction were carried out in water and water-organic mixtures. Optimal conditions provided yield up to 85-95%. Influence of organic ad-ditive on efficiency of processes is discussed.
