Framing effect (FE) refers to the cognitive bias people demonstrate when changes in the description of problem’s outcomes lead to changes in the choice (Kahneman, 2011). The purpose of the present study is to clarify how individual differences in intelligence and personality affect the FE demonstration. Students (N = 55) completed both Kahneman’s Problems on “Asian disease” (framed through gains and losses) and several intellectual and personality tests. The results indicate that FE is related to verbal intelligence and intuitive thinking style. High verbal abilities are associated with deterministic choices in both Problems and low verbal abilities are associated with probabilistic choices in both Problems. Moreover, FE in the losses-framed Problem is related to low verbal intelligence, while in the gains-framed Problem to high verbal intelligence. FE is also related to lower intuition only in the gain-framed Problem. Emotional Intelligence and Fluid Intelligence did not show any relations to FE in both Problems. There are no sex differences in FE’s occurrence. In conclusion, the research data provides evidence in favour of choice preferences being mediated by intelligence and personality. However, FE was not entirely consistent with the conception of System 1 and System 2. Taking into account the results of correlational analysis between measured characteristics on the research sample, we cannot eliminate the possibility of results being altered on a greater sample.
