The objective of this work was to investigate the co-effect of 12-tungstophosphoric heteropolyacid (HPA), nickel citrate and carbon-coated alumina (CCA) in preparation of NiW catalysts for HDS, HYD and HDN reactions. Comparing the active phase morphology, the (Ni/W)edge ratio and catalytic properties of the Ni6-PW12S/Cx/Al2O3 catalysts it was found that TOF numbers in HDS, HYD and HDN linearly increased with the decrease of both the average length of the species of the active phase and the (Ni/W)edge ratio. Further improvements of supported NiW catalysts may be achieved by increasing the dispersion of the active phase species and optimizing the (Ni/W)edge ratio.
