Since the middle of last century, extensive areas of arable lands had been abandoned in many countries worldwide2. Without any direct human impact, these abandoned soils have undergone a process of self-restoration1. Enzymatic activity and microbial biomass are the most sensitive indicators of post-agrogenic changes in soils due to their quick response to cessation of agricultural use3. In this study, we examined the dynamics of microbial and enzymatic activities in post-agrogenic Phaeozems of Central Russia.
