Modern trends in functionality of different areas of cities, and the emergence of new types of suburban settlements in Russia are required to find new methods of planning and design of buildings. The article highlights the feasibility of innovative construction, the basis for the application of technologies for sustainable environmental design and green building technologies. Special attention is paid to the possibilities of computer modeling for the project of green building. The article examines the examples of the comprehensive assessment and analysis of ecological safety of the urban environment, as well as examples of designed recreational areas in the city. An integrated approach based on the application of landscape ecology principles, landscape planning tools, medical and ecological investigation, cultural and historical research. The article assesses and give recommendations to massive challenges in urban renewal.
