Porous silicon nanoparticles (SiNPs) produced by mechanical grinding of porous silicon were explored as antiviral agents for suppression of the infections induced by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in vitro. Silicon nanowires (SiNWs) produced by metal-assisted chemical etching of bulk Si were also studied as sonosensitizers [2] for suppression of Escherichia coli Bacteria (E.coli) proliferation.
