This paper reports on the results of experimental and theoretical investigations on the wetting and interfacial corrosion of the layered Cu-Nb composite material with liquid Pb. The composite was prepared by a sequence of hot rolling operations without intermediate annealing. Layer thickness of about 50 microns was obtained. Samples were cut perpendicularly to the rolling direction and polished. Millimeter size drops of Pb-Cu melt were deposited on the sample surface at 500 deg. С after a preliminary heat treatment at 900 deg. C in high vacuum (10-4 Pa). Equilibrium contact angles were determined in-situ from a sequence of sessile drop images after the termination of spreading. Outer surface in the region of triple line and cross-sections through the solidified drops was inspected by SEM and EDX. Local contact angles for solidified drops and the distribution of the melt components near the wetting line were determined.
