MANDSAUR UNIVERSITY, MANDSAUR (MP) INDIA “International Conference on Empowerment through Education, Ethics & Entrepreneurship – The Next Agenda for BRICS” (IC-4E) Record Note of Proceedings on First Day, 3rd February 2017 Inaugural Session: The Conference began with warm welcome of the guests by University students and traditional lamp lighting & recitation of Saraswati Vandana (Prayer to the Goddess of Wisdom). Chief Guest Prof. Olga G. Leonova, Deputy Chairman, Department of Globalistics, Lomonosov Moscow State University reciting quotes & poems by Mahatama Gandhi and Russian poet Pushkin highlighted the close bonds between India & Russia since ages. Chancellor, Mandsaur University, Er. Narendra Nahata also lauded the friendship relations between India and Russia, support extended by Russia in times of crisis and even the popularity enjoyed by Indian cine star Raj Kapoor in Russia. He thanked Moscow University and UNESCO Chair for establishing its Network Chair at Mandsaur University. Earlier, Prof. Jagdish Khatri, Conference Convener & the Chairholder of UNESCO Network Chair, welcomed the guests & delegates and outlined the theme of the Conference summarized in 4Es of Education, Ethics, Entrepreneurship & Empowerment. Guest of Honour Mr. Swatantra Kumar Singh, IAS, District Collector of Mandsaur congratulated Mandsaur University for this initiative and termed it as a matter of great pride for the city and the region. Conference Coordinator, Prof. Tapesh K. Dubey read out the messages received from dignitaries like Dr. Ilya V. Ilyin, Dean-FGP, Dr. Yuri Sayamov-UNESCO Chairholder and DR. Oleg Alekseenko of BRICS NECSTT from Moscow; Dr. Tshilidzi Marwala from University of Johannesburg, South Africa, and Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Member of Parliament, New Delhi. Registrar, Dr. Dilip Kumar Patnaik proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Prof. Leonova and Collector, Mandsaur for their graceful presence, and termed it as beginning of a long association between the people of Moscow and Mandsaur. Then came the historic moment of the Inauguration of UNESCO Network Chair Office of Mandsaur University by Prof. Leonova along with Chancellor, Collector-Mandsaur and the Chairholder. The Network Chair Office was beautifully decorated with flowers and the photographs of the signing ceremony of BRICS NECSTT at Moscow. Prof. Leonova offered all support and best wishes for meaningful research through this Network Chair. Technical Session- I: “A strong platform of BRICS is not anti-American, but an extra-American and non-West initiative to jointly face new challenges to the world.” This was the central idea presented by the keynote speaker Prof. Olga G. Leonova of Moscow State University at the Technical session. Prof. Jagdish Khatri, Chairholder-UNESCO Network Chair at Mandsaur University presented a new agenda for BRICS as ‘Building Responsible, Inclusive & Competitive Societies’, which can be achieved by concerted efforts on 4Es, i.e. Empowerment through Education, Ethics & Entrepreneurship. The participants witnessed a live narrated presentation by Prof. Mladine Bozanic, along with co-authors Prof. Saurabh Sinha & Saurabh Chaturvedi from University of Johannesburg, South Africa, who deliberated on evolving system of multilateral qualifications through online education among BRICS countries’ institutions. Dr. Sumanjeet Singh from Ramjas College, Delhi University drew the attention to the digital divide among BRICS nations, which is responsible for lesser utilization of ICT. Dr. Surbhi Dayal from Indian Institute of Management, Indore presented a case study on providing learning space for the children of marginalized communities. Ms. Rini Das, an academic associate at IIM, Indore, also presented a case study on the educational status of shelter home girls at New Delhi with respect to Right to Education Act. Technical Session – II: After a sumptuous lunch, the participants gathered again to listen to learned guest speakers from different institutions. Mr. Chetan Kothari, President of Rajkot Management Association and a key figure in Vibrant Gujarat organizing committee dwelt at length on how entrepreneurship is the key to economic prosperity of BRICS countries. He gave interesting examples on how start-ups are becoming the game-changers. He also gave tips to students for becoming successful entrepreneurs. Dr. Shobha Shouche and Dr. Ulka Yadav from Govt. Girls PG College, Ujjain gave a presentation on the empowerment of women through sericulture. Dr. Kalpana Singh from Govt. Madhav Science PG College, Ujjain explained how an undergraduate science research programme can become a giant leap in futuristic education. Ms. Nazneen Kachwala, a multi-talented young engineer, poet, and content developer for The Optimist Citizen newspaper group from Baroda presented case studies of youth empowerment through education, carried out by social groups. Dr. Venu Sharma from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Mandsaur explained empowerment through right education by assessing various abilities and by providing learning opportunities to the students. It was a moment of pride for all participants when Superintendent of Police, Mandsaur Region, Sh. O.P. Tripathi, IPS arrived at the session to congratulate the University and the participants for the unique initiative. He also narrated his experiences gained while serving as a member of a UN Mission at Kosovo in Serbia and his visit to several countries. The day ended with an informal cup of tea and photography sessions with the guests by participants.
