It is our honor to invite you to the V Euro-Asian Symposium "Trends in MAGnetism", EASTMAG-2013, which will be held in Vladivostok from September 15th to September 21th, 2013. EASTMAG – 2013 continues the tradition of important scientific symposiums on topical problems of magnetism and magnetic materials which consolidate scientists from Russia and other countries working in these fields. This series of symposiums started in the Institute of Metal Physics UB RAS (the city of Ekaterinburg, Russia) in 2001, was continued in Krasnoyarsk (2004) and Kazan (2007). The previous IV EASTMAG symposium took place in the city of Ekaterinburg, Russia, in 2010. The conference will provide a range of oral and poster presentations, invited talks and symposia, a tutorial session, and exhibits reviewing the latest developments in nanomagnetism and spintronics. Selected papers from the conference will be published in the Solid State Phenomena or Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials. We would like to cordially invite you to attend the conference, actively participate in its technical sessions, and contribute to the continued success of this conference series. Up-to date information on all aspects of the conference can be found on the conference webpages at http://eastmag.wl.dvfu.ru/ and http://conf.dvfu.ru/eng/event/1236/ Vladivostok is a beautiful city and the administrative center of Primorsky Krai, Russia, situated at the head of the Golden Horn Bay, Sea of Japan. Vladivostok is the home port of the Russian Pacific Fleet and the largest Russian port on the Pacific Ocean. In September 2012, Vladivostok will host the 24th Summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC, http://apec2012.ru). In preparation for the event, the infrastructure of the city has completely renovated and improved. Two giant cable-stayed bridges have been built recently in Vladivostok, namely the Zolotoy Rog bridge over the Golden Horn Bay in the center of the city, and the Russky Island Bridge from the mainland to Russky Island, where the Summit will take place. The latter bridge is the longest cable-stayed bridge in the world. In the autumn of 2012, immediately following the conclusion of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) will move to the new campus on Russky Island. FEFU’s new campus has been rightly considered as the best in Russia and one of the best education facilities in the world. As a world class university, FEFU will have a Smart Campus system, designed to allow easy access to global collaborative events. The new campus occupies 800,000 square meters, and is located on the shoreline of the ecologically pristine Russky Island. It will be soon a true student town, built with the latest technologies to meet the highest modern standards and demands. The cultural program of the symposium will include the city and sea side tours and visits to numerous museums and the city fortress. On behalf of the Organizing Committee of EASTMAG-2013, we look forward to seeing you in Vladivostok on EASTMAG symposium.
