  The 9th International Conference on Protein Stabilisation – ProStab2012 was held from the 2 to 4 May 2012, in Lisbon, Portugal. ProStab2012 was being jointly organised by the Institute of Biotechnology and Bioengineering at Instituto Superior Técnico and the Section on Applied Biocatalysis (ESAB) of the European Federation of Biotechnology. The congress was intended to highlight the recent advances in protein folding, denaturation and stabilisation. Particular focus was given to stabilisation procedures in terms of thermodynamic principles, methods to preserve structure and understanding interactions with its environment, damping the molecular motions of the proteins, and their use in industrial applications, biocatalysis, incorporation into bioreactive coatings, biosensors and medicine namely of therapeutic proteins among others relevant use.
