The First European Mineralogical Conference which will be held at Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University, Frankfurt, Germany, between 2-6 September 2012. Fourteen symposia themes under the general conference theme “Planet Earth from Core to Surface” cover a broad range of topics in mineralogy. The following themes were discussed: 1 – Mantle petrology and geochemistry, 2 – Magmatism and volcanology, 3 – Metamorphism, 4 – Applied mineralogy, 5 – Mineral physics, 6 – Mineralogical crystallography, 7 – Planetary materials, 8 – Mineral deposits and raw materials, 9 – Low T geochemistry 10 – Geochronology 11 – Geobiochemistry 12 – Advanced analytical techniques, 13 – Archaeometry, care and preservation The idea of having a joint conference amongst the European mineralogical societies was born to foster exchange of new research results between the European countries. This conference can be in combination with the annual society meetings. The contributing societies presently are: - DMG - Deutsche Mineralogische Gesellschaft - MinSoc - Mineralogical Society of Great Britain & Ireland - MinSocFin - Mineralogical Society of Finland - ÖMG - Österreichische Mineralogische Gesellschaft - PTMin - Mineralogical Society of Poland - RMS - Russian Mineralogical Society - SEM - Sociedad Española de Mineralogía - SFMC - Société Française de Minéralogie et de Cristallographie - SIMP - Societa‘ Italiana di Mineralogia e Petrologia - SSMP - Swiss Society of Mineralogy and Petrology Highlights of the scientific programme will be the invited speakers including this year’s IMA award medallist. (Sabine Veryn).
