Аннотация:Single crystals of the magnesium and strontium pivalate adducts MgPiv2 · 4HPiv (I) and Sr2Piv4 · 7HPiv (II), where HPiv = (CH3)3CCOOH, were synthesized and structurally studied by X-ray diffraction. Com-pound I crystallizes in the monoclinic system, a = 17.447(3) Å, b = 10.718(2) Å, c = 21.204(4) Å, = 104.51(3), Z=4, space group P21/c, R1 = 0.0441. The crystal structure of II with a = 12.225(3) Å, b = 16.337(4) Å, c = 19.146(5) Å, = 84.25(3), = 87.67(3), = 69.88(3), Z = 2 corresponds to the triclinic system; space group
P, R1 = 0.0635. In the structure of I, the coordination environment of magnesium is a distorted [MgO6] octa-hedron with Mg–O distances of 2.032–2.109 Å. Each oxygen atom of the Piv groups is the acceptor for one intramolecular OH···O hydrogen bond (2.502.63 Å). In structure II, two strontium atoms with nine-coordi-nation and Sr–O distances of 2.5322.824 Å are linked by three chelating–bridging Piv groups. Mass spectrom-etry shows that sublimation of magnesium pivalate MgPiv2 involves two processes, namely, thermolysis to give magnesium oxopivalate Mg4O(Piv)6 and sublimation as oligomers of various compositions. In the case of stron-tium pivalate, thermal decomposition predominates
