Here, we report on the fabrication of an array of anatase phase titania nanotubes via hydrothermal treatment of anodic titania films. The hydrothermal treatment leads to structural transformation from amorphous titania film consisted of nanotubes with smooth external and internal walls to tubular like structure composed of anatase nanoparticles with average size of 21 nm ± 5 nm. The photoactivity of the obtained material was studied with respect to its water splitting efficiency in absence of any sacrificial agent. The material showed photoactivity in the UV-range with IPCE efficiencies of up to 3.2 % at zero bias and up to 6.5 % at 1.2 V bias potential.
