A molecular-statistical theory of a nematic liquid crystal system with SiO2 nanoparticles is derived. We investigate the effect of the surface curvature of incorporated particles on the nematic ordering of a liquid crystal. We explain the two-step temperature-induced phase transition from the nematic phase doped with nanoparticles to the isotropic phase, which is observed in the experiment.
