A majority of massive stars form as binary systems in compact star clusters and then find themselves in the field due to two main processes: few-body dynamical encounters and binary-supernova explosions. In this talk I'll review the origin of high-velocity population of the field stars (the so-called runaway stars), the methods for their detection, and the role they play in constraining early dynamical evolution of star clusters.
