Unique shape and physical characteristics of the diamond platelets attract great attentions for both basic research and for exciting applications. In this work diamond platelets of sub-micrometer size were obtained by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technique from CH 4 /H 2 gas mixture. Comprehensive characterization of the CVD diamond platelets was performed with use scanning and transmission electron microscopies. The diamond crystallites appeared in form of stacked or individual platelets in combination with more common octahedrons. Electron diffraction patterns of the diamond platelets reveal their six-fold rotational symmetry and composition of stacked (111) diamond atom planes.
